Margaret Hartzler, PhDTwo core concepts of Jungian psychological type theory are the eight functions he described in Psychological Types and the process of differentiating them that has become known as type development. Without understanding how to apply these two core concepts it is too easy to see how people regidify the sixteen types.
This distance learning program is structured to provide direct Internet communications with the trainer for both the knowledge and the application/experiential components and will offer MBTI Certification Program CEUs.
Objectives:
- Increase participant knowledge of the eight functions.
- Increase participant ability to consciously use more of the eight functions.
- Develop and demonstrate an ability to use the eight functions with your clients, either in one-on-one or group settings.
Course materials provided:
- Functions of Type: Activities to Develop the Type Preferences by Gary and Margaret Hartzler
- Function Skills Development Indicator (FSDI) and personalized FSDI Report for participant.
- Additional FSDI administration authorizations for your clients
Curriculum:
- Complete the Function Skills Development Indicator (FSDI) on-line and complete the self-selection process incorporated in the FSDI Feedback Report.
- Using both your-self selection scores and the FSDI results, write a summary report of your analysis of your ability to use each of the eight functions. Special attention should be paid to those skills that were difficult to understand.
- Commit to specifically work on developing skills related to two of your non-preferred functions.
- Chose appropriate activities from those provided in Functions of Type that you will use to work on your type development.
- Modify the activities to make them more applicable to you, but not to change the focus of the activity. Document those modifications.
- Perform the activities. Some activities may have to be repeated multiple times until you believe you have increased your abilities.
- Keep a record/journal of your activities, what the results were, and any affective experiences you had.
- Pass a test on your knowledge of the eight functions.
- Demonstrate your ability to apply your understanding of the eight functions. There are two choices. One is to work one-on-one with at least two clients and the other is to conduct a workshop for a group.
- For one-on-one: Administer the FSDI to at least two clients and give feedback. One of your sessions needs to be taped and sent back to trainer for critiquing. Each client should work with you to develop a plan for working on his/her type development. You should document your own performance in each session and forward your report to the trainer.
- For group: Prepare a workshop outline that includes having the participants take the FSDI, educating the participates on the eight functions, going over the FSDI results, and working with them as they decide what skills they will develop and how they are going to go about doing this. This outline should show the resources you are going to use (power point slides, books, etc.), flow and description of activities. Completed power points (overheads) will be sent along with the outline to the trainer for review and suggestion prior to delivery of the workshop. Any changes necessary will be made. After delivery a critique of the design and delivery will be sent to trainer.
